Abstract | This study assesses the activities of the Ohio Library Association (OLA) an the Ohio Library Trustees Association (OLTA)--the formal and informal relationships with the State Library, promotion of libraries throughout the state by these organizations, and participation and attitudes of the organizations' members. Data for the study were collected through an examination of the by-laws, newsletters and other relevant documents of each organization, interviews with persons affiliated with the organizations, attendance at a district meeting and regional workshop, and questionnaires mailed to the membership. Recommendations concerning the OLA involve: including all types of libraries in the OLA, more membership benefits for nonprofessionals, guidelines for selecting officers and committees, a panel of librarians to study the relation of OLA to the State Library, working for another accredited library school, and greater emphasis on public relations. Recommendations for the OLTA emphasize more active participation among the trustees, principally by offering more effective and creative programs that directly involve the trustees.
